These are from the Olympic Torch Run protests Wednesday, April 9th 2008 in San Francisco, CA. This is not the start of the report - if you got a direct link to this page you might want to go back to the start.

The opening ceremonies are just across the water. Grr!

Back to the torch route.

There were massive numbers of police. They were clearly ready for the run, or pretending to be as a distraction. It was never clear.

A bit of street theater.

The Vietnamese Fishermen had lots of supporters - I got a flyer with more detail but this pretty much sums it up.

There were quite a few signs along these lines - that the Tibetans weren't so great themselves before the Chinese came in and modernized things.

Blocking the channel. At this point I was getting more interested in the goings on - it was clear that the easiest way to get the torch to the opening ceremonies was by boat, and it's possible they did this. One rumor was that they were going to totally replace the run with just putting the torch on a boat and running it up the coast.

This police boat was the obvious choice. And at some point lots of police on jet skies started circling it in a protective fashion. Was the torch there, or was this just another ruse?
OK, next page.
